Unique blue, white and red porcelain and sterling silver brooch.
One of the most enduring memories of childhood summers is of peering into rockpools created by the retreating tide, sea creatures and plants marooned in the crevices and hollows of the boulder strewn foreshore. This is one of a series of porcelain brooches inspired by the foreshore at Mothecombe beach in West Devon.
Each brooch is created from a mould that had been made directly on the beach which has then been further worked by hand. Tiny details have been sculpted to suggesting the lifeforms that cling to wave battered rocks and the eroded traces they leave behind.

After a bisque firing the porcelain is hand coloured with a rich cobalt oxide and tiny inclusions of a red glaze stain, then glaze is painted onto discrete features and fired again to fully vitrify the clay resulting in contrasting matt and glossy surfaces. High in silica, this high fired porcelain has a glass like quality that ensures it is robust enough to set within a supporting sterling silver claw setting.
